Franz grew up in Styria, the green heart of Austria. He's been living and working in Vienna since 1982.
His first experience in serious people photography and nude art was in 1985. After a long pause from 1990 to 2006, he found back to his real passion: the photography with the focus on nude art, primary nudes in nature. His purpose is to make his models become one with nature in a very sensitive way.
In 2008 Franz Sauer won the "Gold Medal in the nude category“ from the famous Trierenberg Super Circuit. The Trierenberg Super Circuit has established itself as an international graduator of perfect photography.
7 Questions an interview with Franz Sauer
Erographic: When did you become interested in photography?
Franz Sauer: I‘m interested in photography since the age of 6 when I inherited an old camera from my grandfather who was also a passionate photographer. It seems that I also inherited his passion for photography.
Erographic: Do you have your own studio or are you working on location?
Franz Sauer: I love the nature and therefore the nature is my primary studio. Also in winter when it ‘s freezing cold. But for some work I need a studio. In this case I can use the studio of my photo-club in Vienna.
Erographic: Do you have assistance or are you working alone?
Franz Sauer: Most of the time, I work alone with my model. In some situations I have assistance.
Erographic: Was it easy to find models when you started photographing nudes?
Franz Sauer: It was a step by step process where good pictures attracted better models and so on. I also started first with portraits and fashion, than lingerie to end up with nudes in snow.
Erographic: What do you prefer: digital or analog?
Franz Sauer: After a long pause from almost 10 years I restarted with a DSLR camera in 2006. The last analog picture is 16 years back. I love to work with DSLR cameras, because digital post processing is part of my pictures.
Erographic: Do you have other artist(s) who you admire and inspire you?
Franz Sauer: There are a lot of great photographers all across the world which gave me the inspiration to create my own work. But there is no single photographer I admire.
Erographic: What is number one on your wishlist?
Franz Sauer: To publish a book with the titel‚ Bodies In Nature‘. At this moment I am collecting material for it and I’m looking for a publisher.
