A short interview with Aeric Meredith-Goujon (1969) who lives and works Brooklyn, New York, USA.

Erographic:

When did you become interested in photography?

Aeric Meredith-Goujon

I started making photographs in college, when I was about 22. I think I became interested in photography some time after that.

Erographic:

Do you have your own studio or are you working on location?

Aeric Meredith-Goujon

I convert my living room into a studio when needed. Sometimes I do work on location or in the homes of friends.

Erographic:

Do you have assistance or are you working alone?

Aeric Meredith-Goujon

I often have assistance from hair and makeup artists as well as riggers for the bondage work. And for large (or merely well paying) jobs, I will hire a photo assistant.

Erographic:

Was It easy to find models when you started photographing nude?

Aeric Meredith-Goujon

It wasn't difficult to find models for nudes. But when i started making more unambiguously erotic work it wasn't so easy. But in time, i've discovered some wonderfully brilliant models to collaborate with.

Erographic:

What do you prefer: digital or analog?

Aeric Meredith-Goujon

I don't have a preference for analog or digital cameras. They both have their strengths. But in daily practice I work digitally now. But I have a strong preference for analog prints. I love emulsion.

Erographic:

Do you have other artist(s) who you admire and inspire you?

Aeric Meredith-Goujon

Absolutely. That list is very long. For starters - Man Ray, Barnett Newman, Gerhard Richter, Roy Decarava, Ralph Gibson, Richard Serra, Wong Kar Wai, Agnes Martin, Mark Tobey, Gilles Berquet, The Quay Brothers, Claire Denis, Lillian Bassman, Uta Barth... and then there are all the musicians and writers.

Erographic:

What is number one on you wishlist?

Aeric Meredith-Goujon

I guess the thing I wish for most is to grow in my ability to be of service to my fellow human beings. I wish to be free of ego. I have a long way to go.
